TVA has moved 8 generators and turbines to its new natural gas power plant in Rogersville. Today, January 22, 2011, was the last and heaviest load to be moved. The rig is 22 feet wide and 345 feet long. The combined weight of the trucks, rig and generator was estimated at 660 tons. I count 192 tires on the support rig alone. Traffic lights were lifted, over the road directional signs moved and traffic blocked on the highways as the rig passed through. The I-40 bridge over Strawberry Plains Pike was too low, so the rig was taken up the northbound on ramp, across the median of the freeway, and down the southbound off ramp. Barnhart Crane and Rigging Company performed the transfer.
