Both these images were taken just after dawn. This tree, the favorite spot of many turkey vultures in the area, is only about 150-200 yards south of the Watauga River.

My greatest distraction here was the landowner's Labrador retriever, who insisted on licking my hands every time I dropped them low enough. I think he was actually sitting with his butt under the tripod when this shot was made.
