Massengill Slave Cabin

The Massengill Slave Cabin, next to the DeVault Mansion. It is said to date back to the time when Henry Massengill first occupied this land in the 1780s. The cabin survived the fire in about 1795 that destroyed the main cabin, said to have been one of the largest log homes ever built in Tennessee. Family history says the Massengill Cabin was used as a residence by the foreman of the crew who made the bricks on site and built the DeVault Mansion in 1849-52.
